A Short Autobiography
About Richard Buchanan and his Artwork.
Growing
up as a child I was always crafting various projects, drawing
and coloring abstract designs. Art class in school was my
favorite class and I did well winning various contests and
earning recognition. As I entered high school I somewhat
fell away from my artistic side and focused on other parts
of my life.
It wasn't until I was 24 and moved to Boston in 2003 that
I started painting. One of my neighbors in my building was
an artist and she inspired me to start painting. She took
me to the art store, helped me pick out my first paints,
brushes and canvas and gave me some initial direction. From
that point on I painted off and on for a few years, but
didn't really know where I wanted to go with what I was
doing.
In 2008 I moved back to Missouri. My father had passed away
while I was in Boston and when I got back home I inherited
all of his old brushes and his large wood easel that he
built when he was 17 years old, and used until he died.
My dad was a man of many talents, he was a carpenter, a
blacksmith, a jeweler, a painter, a sketch artist, a wood
worker, etc..etc..etc.. I did not grow up around my father
but I do wish I had so that he could have taught me what
he knew.
Having my fathers brushes and easel has greatly inspired
me to follow a path that I think I was meant to be on from
the beginning but got lost along the way. Being a Gemini,
I've always had a hard time deciding what I want to do with
my life, having interest in so many different things. With
art I can embrace my ever-changing style and make great
art that is as dynamic as I am.
I am currently in the process of creating a variety of cohesive
collections that I can show at various galleries and offer
for sale online. I am learning and creating new techniques
that will make my art even more bold, dynamic and original.
My current artworks are a beautiful fusion of fine and flash,
a blend of color and texture, a cross of chaos and order
that will draw you in for closer look.
Thank you for viewing my artwork and reading my statement.
